It happens the same way, every time, when you least expect it. It never fails to amaze me how opportunities present themselves. You’re probably about to say “what the hell are you talking about?” I’m talking about the best part about being an owner of a magazine, and that’s meeting people like Tara Larson.
I met her through a friend of mine, ironically at my Americana Fashion Event in June, and her fun-loving, free spirited attitude is unmistakably eye-catching. It’s what us artists in the industry call a “good crazy”.
So, a few days after that event, I was booking performances for our next event, and one of the performers that I talked to previously, never got back to me. I needed to find someone to fill the spot, but who?
And then..it hit me..for as long as I live I’ll never forget the talent that I heard driving back on the way back home. My rental car that night was horrible, the line-in kept on cutting in and out, and I’m not personally a fan of over the air radio, but I reluctantly had to put it on, but it was no comparison to the woman in the back seat singing.
So a Facebook message and phone call later, and here we are…
A Jersey native, Larson is a Hair Stylist & Makeup Artist, but aside from her career, music has always been her passion. “Music’s my outlet.”Tara says. “It’s my Xanex. When I’m pissed off…I sit in my room, put on my headphones, and I get lost in the music”
Tara’s been singing as long as she was able to talk. Of course, as you may’ve figured by now, Tara’s not one of those run of the mill, “one hit wonder” or “here today, gone tomorrow” type of individuals. She has been convicted to one day becoming a popular artist at doing something that she loves even more than the professional beautification of her clients at Mercedes Hair Salon.
Tara has auditioned for The Voice, as well as competed in many local competitions such as the Laurita Winery Contest, which in that instance, finished in the top five.
“I’ve always been inspired by the Artistic Outlet” Tara says “Whether it be dance, music, art, or fashion. It allows me to come into one’s own self – It defines who want to be known as” Tara has also at one point been a professional dancer for 14 years, specializing in ballet, lyrical, and tap amongst others.
“My biggest inspirations in music are Lady Gaga, because she’s so free spirited, Pink, who’s so real, its not even funny, and Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum who was told at one point at American Idol that she would never be a successful singer – which was proven to be wrong”
Outside of music, Tara is one of the most down-to-earth individuals that you’ll meet, and I know that from personal experience. ” I can’t stand fucking liars” Tara says.” I like people who are real and don’t make up excuses.” Her personality is contagious, and it’s very hard not to like her.
When asked about who’s the biggest influences in her life, she proudly states “The two biggest influences in my life are my mother, whose stood by and supported me 100% throughout my life, and my Boyfriend Paul, who’s a great all around guy, hard-worker, and like my mother has stood behind me 100% as well.
Determined, driven, risk-taker, outspoken, and talented are just a few of the words that come to mind when I’m asked about Tara. “You can be told no, but hearing someone tell you no..doesn’t mean that you can’t do it or shouldn’t do it. Because only you can tell you what you can’t do. I see it as a challenge for me to conquer.” Tara says, and because of that attitude, she’s been able to achieve her goal of being able to perform in front of a live audience for an event. I’m just happy that it was my event that has the privilege of hosting this momentous occasion. – Mr. Vicissitude
